Still, in movement

Is the third in a series of zones designed for reconnecting with more-than-human beings. Like the zones that preceded it, the work follows the principles of site-specific, collective, and cross-collaborative practice - using found, sustainable materials and tools.

The work invites visitors into an immersive exploration of bodies of water.

As water entwines all living and non-living forms it becomes a prompt for reconnecting with ourselves and with the world around us.

The artwork can be experienced in two ways.

I. Boat Ride / Library

Departing from a Library, visitors embark on a boat ride. Upon arrival, visitor are given a boat access card accompanied by a Seed Bag of Knowledge. The bag is a small collection of materials that includes a link to an audio meditation and various elements to engage with water. After their exploration, visitors are invited to contribute a seed of their own: an instruction, an object, a recipe, or something entirely different that can help navigate other visitors in their exploration.

II. Floating Bench / Environmental Art Park

On the shore of the Iijoki River, at the Environmental Art Park in Ii, visitors can encounter a piece of floating wood. Through an auditory and sensory meditation, visitors are guided to engage in exploratory gestures that establish a connection between their bodies, bodies or the land and river.

This project is made possible with the help of non-human and human collaborators. With gratitude to: Iljoki river, its ice, lichen, moss, birch,

and pine trees, and to Timo Haapaniemi, Pekka Jurvakainen, and

Hannu Huovinen; Janne Hyvönen and the team at Micropolis Iipaja Workshop, where parts of the project were produced. The Seed Bag

is a handwork by Onni Tauriainen. Production was made smoother

\with the help of Inkeri Jäntti.

This zone is produced during an art residency at KulttuuriKauppila Art Center, local partner in the  E75 Art Bus -project, a co-operation with

Muu ry and Kaltio ry. The project is part of the official program of Oulu2026 – European Capital of Culture.

The work can be visited from spring to late summer. Visitors can explore the artwork on their own, through spontaneous encounters, resting on the bench exploring it through gentle touches or during a boat ride with the elements from the Seed bag of knowledge. To fully explore the artwork visitors will need working internet connection to access a guided audio meditation. The audio is best listened through headphones.

You can find more details about the project in the Zine photo. It explains and guides you into the experience.
